THE HISTORY OF
REDES COMPOSTELA

In the year 1938

The menu from the Victoria and Viño restaurants dated April 30, 1938, highlights the price disparity between seafood dishes and other items, revealing that seafood was then considered an undervalued commodity. It is striking that a dozen oysters cost two pesetas, while a serving of asparagus with mayonnaise was more expensive. The daily menu, priced at 4.5 pesetas, included options such as potato omelet, fried turbot, or pork loin with potatoes, along with a varied selection of Galician seafood, such as shrimp and barnacles, at one peseta per serving.

The Michelin Guide recommended the Victoria restaurant from 1956 to 1977, highlighting its menu priced between 50 and 65 pesetas and awarding it up to five forks. At that time, meat was more expensive than fish, a peculiarity attributed to the predominance of a carnivorous diet and the lack of appreciation for seafood and fish compared to today.
